Nicholas has composed instrumental and chamber music, songs, choral music and organ music. His opera, Carina, has received a highly acclaimed showcase at English National Opera. Pianist
Nicholas is a regular recitalist, both as an accompanist and as a soloist. He has an extensive career as a freelance répétiteur, and is a regular guest member of music staff at the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and other companies. He was répétiteur for Sir Simon Rattle on the Aix-en-Provence/Salzburg Ring cycle with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Nicholas also plays the organ and harpsichord, and loves the Baroque repertoire.
Conductor and coach
Nicholas has conducted Handel's Acis and Galatea for English National Opera and is the founder and conductor of the string ensemble Tamino Orchestra, with whom he has conducted Strauss’s Metamorphosen, the UK première of Arvo Pärt’s Greater Antiphons (orchestral version), and premières of his own works. He also has many years of experience conducting choirs and is in demand as an assistant conductor in opera.
Recently: assistant conductor to Sir Mark Elder, Palau de les Arts, Valencia (Luisa Miller, L'Enfance du Christ, Turandot); guest music staff, Royal Opera (I puritani, Don Giovanni); répétiteur, London Philharmonic Orchestra (Wozzeck). Upcoming: assistant conductor, Valencia (Die Walküre concert performance); répétiteur, Opera Rara (Mercadante Il campo de' crociati); conductor, St Stephen's Consort (choral concerts).
