Pianist
Nicholas is a regular recitalist, both as an accompanist and as a soloist. He has an extensive career as a freelance répétiteur, and is a regular guest member of music staff at the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Hallé, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Opera Rara and elsewhere. He was répétiteur for Sir Simon Rattle on the Aix/Salzburg Ring cycle with the Berlin Philharmoniker. Nicholas also loves the Baroque repertoire and is a harpsichordist and organist.

Conductor and coach
Nicholas has conducted Handel's Acis and Galatea for English National Opera and is the founder and conductor of the string ensemble Tamino Orchestra, with whom he has conducted Strauss’s Metamorphosen, the UK première of Arvo Pärt’s Greater Antiphons, and premières of his own works. He also has many years of experience conducting choirs. He is in demand as an assistant conductor, for instance assisting John Adams on his recording of Doctor Atomic with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. As a result of his wide experience with singers, Nicholas is sought after as an accomplished vocal coach.
